The purpose of the “Bleeds Black” Award is to highlight the passion and commitment of individuals to the superiority of asphalt as the pavement of choice in Ontario. The Council credits the words of Tim Fawcett, past OHMPA director, who said when describing an individual “whose passion and commitment for all things asphalt is so great that when cut, they bleed black.”– March 6, 2013 Annual General Meeting
The Dr. Norman McLeod Award for Innovation was named in honour of Dr. Norman McLeod, Canada’s most accomplished asphalt innovator. The purpose of the award is to highlight the innovative work of those involved in the asphalt industry
The Honorary Life Membership Award recognizes Members for their dedication to advancing the objectives of the Ontario Asphalt Pavement Council and who have performed notable service to the Council.

The King Beamish Excellence Award recognizes an OAPC member who has made an exemplary voluntary contribution to the works of the Council over a period of time and has demonstrated qualities that exemplify leadership, motivation and inspiration related to participation in the Council.
The Earl Kee Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes an OAPC member who has made an exemplary voluntary contribution to the works of the Council in the past year and has made a significant contribution to the development or progress of the Council’s objectives.
The Joe Bunting Mentorship Award was established to recognize the importance of mentorship to our community. To quote Joe from an article in ASPHALTopics, “You learn fairly early on in your career that your success depends on the success of others and I have always valued the opportunity to hire young people, to be their mentor and share in their achievements.” This award not only honours Joe but turns a spotlight on those people in our industry that take the time to teach, inspire and encourage tomorrow’s leaders of our industry.
